With a background in graphic design, Jo Ryan spent years observing our world’s ‘communication landscape’; Jo's personal art exploration started as she was walking down Collins Street on her way to work, doing her usual thing checking out the advertising trends and shop windows.
Jo started to really notice how much communication is around us - words scream for attention or whisper; they inform and distract. Communication can be signage/graphics, or street art, tags and stickers; they are everywhere and they are all trying to tell you something.
Since then, Jo Ryan has tried to communicate this ‘communication landscape’ in her work using various mediums and techniques, mostly the mediums that make up this communication are spray paint, signage vinyl and aluminium composite.
